We at Fly Fish Food have taken the guess work of trying to build your own leaders and we’ve put together a few of our absolute favorite tried and true leader set ups. Whether you’re fishing Euro, or Stillwater, we got you covered!
Basic Euro: Designed for the beginner Euro nymph angler. This features a 20lb butt section ofMono then tapers down to 15lb, then 12lb. From there we attach a length of Sighter material and finish off with a Tippet ring for easy tippet attachment. Approximate leader length + Sighter is 14 feet.
Advanced Euro: You’re not a beginner, but you’ve progressed your casting skills past the thicker Basic Euro leader. Benefits of going thinner are better connection with your flies and the ability to start fishing further away from you without as much leader sagging. The Advanced Euro leader features a butt section of 12lb Monoand tapers down to 10lb. From there we attach a length of Sighter material and finish off with a Tippet ring for easy tippet attachment. Approximate leader length + Sighter is 14 feet.
Advanced Micro Thin Euro: You’re casting skills with a Euro rod are well developed, and you are needing a thin leader for the best contact with your flies and next to zero leader sag as you fish further away from you. The Micro Thin Euro leader features a full length of straight 6lb Mono leader. From there we attach a length of Sighter material and finish off with a tippet ring for easy tippet attachment. Approximate leader length + Sighter is 14 feet.
Stillwater/Streamer: So you want to fish stillwater like a pro hu? From dry flies to streamers, and everything in between this is how we like setting up our rigs for lakes. The Stillwater/Streamer line features a shorter tapered butt section of 20lb Mono tapered down to 15lb. We finish it off with a tippet ring for easy tippet attachment.
